Tribal Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED) had planned to set up 10 new units under TRIFOOD— an ambitious project designed for setting up processing units for minor forest produce to enhance incomes of tribal communities.
The process for identifying the location setting up the unit had started. TRIFED had launched the project in August last year in Raigad, Maharashtra and Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. As of now, work is in full-swing for the TRIFOOD unit being set up at Jagdalpur.
“There is still a large scope of expansion of livelihood generating activities in tribal areas of the State,” TRIFED Managing Director Pravir Krishna said while discussing the progress of tribal development programmes with the state officials during his four-day visit.
He reiterated that in order to provide benefits to the tribal community of the State a special focus needs to be given to enhance the quality, focussed marketing and strategic branding of the products.
The TRIFED had recommended that mineral-rich Chhattisgarh state might consider allocating 10 per cent of District Mineral Funds (DMF) and funds under Art 275 (1) for developing entrepreneurship and livelihood generation of tribals through TRIFOOD units. 25 tribal clusters are to be identified so that they can be developed into entities under the SFURTI scheme.
It had also asked the state to submit a proposal for inclusion of 15 more items to the list of MFPs under the scheme of minimum support price (MSP). The TRIFED had decided to expand the number of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras to 231, Haat Bazaars to 370, Godowns to 74 and Tertiary Processing units to 13 over the next financial year.
Besides, 10 TRIBES India outlets would be opened across the state– two of which were opened recently.
