A bus packed with kanwariyas collided with a truck loaded with gas cylinders near Jamunia in Mohanpur block of Deoghar district killing 18 people and injuring over two dozen on early Tuesday morning.

The condition of a couple of injured is reported to be critical. The collision was so severe that the bus was completely ruined as metal remains. The front portion of the truck was also damaged.

The victims were the native of Bihar and going to Baba Dham in Deoghar on the auspicious occasion of Savan.

On receiving the information about the accident, police and NDRF teams immediately reached the spot. The victims and the injured were taken to Deoghar Sadar Hospital.

The exact cause could not be known that led to the accident. The police suspect nap could be the possible reason. The bus driver has also died in the accident. He has been identified as Subhash Doori under Mohanpur police station area of ​​Deoghar district.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has also expressed grief over the accident.

He wrote on the X post that the district administration had been directed to provide best medical facilities to the injured.
