Patna, July 8
Mrs Chhaya Mishra, Vice President of Patna High Court Advocates Association, on Saturday suggested 35 per cent reservations for women lawyers in the appointment of law officers.
Mrs Chhaya Mishra welcomed Bihar cabinet decision to bring in amendments in the Bihar law officers (engagement) rules on July 4 and hoped the changes would provide a fair, objective and transparent system in selection of the law officers in High Court, district and sub divisional courts, tribunals and other forums.
The amendments have been brought in keeping in view defects in the 2021 rules and observations of Hon’ble Supreme Court, Patna, Madras and Punjab and Haryana High Courts since 2017.
Mrs Chhaya Mishra said it was an appropriate decision to scrap the roles of prinicipal secretaries of Home (Police), general administration departments.
Calling the decision, she said a just provision has been made authorizing the advocate general, prinicipal secretary and joint secretary of law department to select the law officers, as all the three from law and judicial services background.
The woman leader demanded, 35 percent of government appointed law officers from Supreme Court to sub divisional courts should have women representations.
In the special designated courts dealing with offences against children and women, only women lawyers be appointed as law officers, but merit, not caste or political affiliations should be the criteria, she cautioned.
