The sprawling 25 acres Kelly’s Bungalow would be the new jail for RJD president Lalu Prasad, who is lodged in the prison (paying ward of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences at Ranchi.
Interestingly, the Bungalow was the official residence of the Director of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) where 18 rooms were converted into temporary Prison wards for the convenience of former Railway Minister.
Lalu, who is convicted in five different cases related to fodder scam since December 2017 was in Birsa Munda Jail for three months and then shifted to RIIMS. He was shifted to RIIMS in April 2018 when a month of stay in AIIMS New Delhi.
The decision to shift Lalu from RIIMs ward was taken on the recommendation of the hospital superintendent who had informed the jail superintendent of Birsa Munda Jail and senior SP of Ranchi about the Covid-19 outbreak among three attendants. The first floor of the hospital and canteen had been closed as some canteen staffers too were found having positive symptoms.
The senior officials of the civil and police administration visited the Bungalow and took stock of the security arrangement.
Built by the Britishers, Kelly Bungalow has two big dining halls, two verandas and four bedrooms.
The sprawling Bungalow is covered with fruit bearing trees and has big garden, which will facilitate Lalu to have morning and evening stroll besides meeting the visitors.
The floral scent will also help Lalu to evade foul hospital smell, literally.
Royal luxury like a king after conviction.
