Not a flowered decorated car, a couple had to ferry on a large cooking vessel to reach the venue and solemnise their marriage as scheduled on Monday.

The bride Aishwarya and the groom Rahul, both health workers and hailing from the same locality, were scheduled to tie the nuptial knot held in the local temple at Thakazhi near Alappuzha on Monday. However, things went for a toss as by then the roads had disappeared as the area was submerged following incessant rainfall that hit Kerala for the last couple of days. The rains continued till Sunday and inundated a major portion of the Kuttanad area of Alappuzha.

The couple however took a daring decision and arranged a large cooking vessel to sail ahead, braving flooded roads and reaching their wedding hall. They travelled nearly 500 metres on the traditional vessel for their wedding held in a local temple at Thakazhi near Alappuzha. The couple has been working in a hospital in Chengannur.

The event caught the cameras that were moving around to cover the story of flood in the area. Amidst covering the tragedies inflicted by the flood, the journalists could get a good piece to report the unique marriage. The couple told reporters that the attendance was thin as they had invited minimum people due to COVID pandemic.

While the “brave” groom roared, “We were not scared to travel in the vessel,” the shy bride put it, “We all are happy that the wedding took place as per the plan on the auspicious time.”
