Keeping up with his tradition of spending the festival of lights with Army personnel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the border area of Nowshera sector in Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Diwali.
Asserting that the Nowshera sector has been playing the role of guard for Srinagar and Jammu and Kashmir since the country’s independence, the Prime Minister said the Holy soil of the sector stands as a living example of bravery and courage. “History speaks volume of the bravery of the region and the indomitable sacrifice of the great soldiers,” Modi said while addressing jawans in one of the forward posts.
The Prime Minister offered sweets to the jawans and celebrated Diwali with them. “Every one wishes to celebrate the festival with the family members and I too…,” Modi said, adding that hence he celebrates Diwali with the soldiers whom he considered as his family. Since assuming the high office, he has made it a tradition for him to celebrate the festival with the jawans. “I come before you as a family member and not as Prime Minister,” he added.
The border region in the union territory has recently witnessed encounters between the Army and terrorists. The Prime Minister said after returning from the Nowshera sector, he would get new energy. In every war, the sector had played the crucial role to defend the country, he said, adding that Nowshera stood as a wall and foiled all the attempts of the enemy. “I salute the Lion of Nowshera Brigadier Mohammad Usman and Naik Jadunath Singh for their supreme sacrifice,” the Prime Minister said.
He also recalled the great contribution of Lieutenant R R Rana. Modi also gave reference to Basant Singh and Baldev Singh, the two children who helped Brigadier Mohammad Usman to inflict a humiliating defeat on enemy and intruders.
The Prime Minister said even the Nowshera sector played an important role during the successful surgical strike.
