Raipur, November 11
In an unceremonious development, Chhattisgarh government today evening removed D M Awasthi from the post of Director General of Police (DGP) and handed over the baton to Ashok Juneja.
Ashok Juneja, a 1989-batch IPS officer, will be the acting Director General of Police (DGP). He was overseeing the anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh. He will be superannuated in mid of 2023.
Awasthi, a 1986-batch IPS officer, took over the command of Chhattisgarh police soon after the Congress government came to power in December 2018. He has been shifted as Director General of the State Police Academy in Raipur.
Juneja, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of anti-Naxal operations/state intelligence branch (SIB) and holding the additional charge of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and Special Task Force (STF), has been made acting DGP till further orders, the order said.
Sources in the police headquarters said Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had some reservations over the working style of Awasthi that led to his departure. However, the issue that resented the Chief Minister could not be known from the sources.
