State-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has appointed Thriveni Earthmovers as mines developer and operator (MDO) for Talaipalli coal mine in Chhattisgarh.
Talaipalli Coal Mining Project has a capacity to extract 18 million tonne per annum (MTPA) from Open cast and 0.72 MTPA from underground is spread in a mining lease area of 2349.35 hectare is Gharghoda tehsil of Raigarh.
The block was reallocated by the coal ministry to the country largest power producer NTPC in 2015. The coal mined from the project would feed NTPC’s 4000-Mw Lara power plant located in the same district.
NTPC had awarded the mine development and operation contract of Talaipalli mine to a consortium of NCC and BGR Mining in 2017.
Earlier, NTPC had terminated the contracts it had awarded to BGR Mining and Infra for development of its coal mines in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh over allegations of corruption against senior officials of the private mining company. The separate letters for both the projects were issued on July 4, 2019 by NTPC.
In the fresh proposal floated, mining company Thriveni Earthmovers had bagged the contract worth Rs 31,428 crore from the NTPC to develop and operate Talaipalli coal mine.
Thriveni Earthmovers specialises in mining natural resource commodities like iron ore, copper, coal, bauxite, among others. The company claims to be one of the leading Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) globally.
