Paddy procurement starts in Chhattisgarh

Paddy procurement started in Chhattisgarh from Wednesday even as the Bhupesh Baghel government has set a target to purchase over 10 million tonne of yield from the farmers in the current kharif marketing season.

For the Kharif marketing year 2021-22, the Centre has fixed minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,960 per quintal for Grade A variety and Rs 1,940 per quintal for common variety and Rs 1870 per quintal for maize. The MSP of paddy was marginally hike by Rs 72 per quintal.

The Congress government led by Bhupesh Baghel has set a target to procure 105 lakh metric tonne of paddy in the current season from about 2.26 million registered farmers through 2399 cooperative societies. For the convenience of farmers, the state government has set up 88 new paddy procurement centers this year.

The state government will purchase paddy from farmers on support price through cash and linking till January 31, 2022 while procurement of maize will continue till February 28, 2022. Nodal officers have been appointed to ensure smooth and transparent process for the paddy procurement.

Farmers’ fervour can be seen at different procurement centres on the first day.

State’s Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain dashed to Jaroda and Bangoli procurement centers in Raipur district to take stock of preparedness. He performed the puja; welcomed the farmers by garlanding before formally starting paddy procurement.
