The crisis for Congress in Meghalaya seems to be heading for further catch after the resignation of 12 MLAs including former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, state working president James Lyngdoh resigned from the post on Wednesday.
Besides James Lyngdoh, former general secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Manash Das Gupta also resigned from the Congress, citing “mismanagement” in the party.
“Despite serving the party for several years, the state leadership has stripped and side lined me,” James Lyngdoh told media persons at Shillong Press Club on Wednesday. He said, “The MPCC leadership wanted me to be removed as working president. They already sent a letter to the AICC seeking my removal. So, I myself instead decided to step down.”
In his resignation letter to All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, KC Venugopal, James Lyngdoh, however, did not cite any reason for resigning from the party. Nor has indicated his next move or joining which political outfit.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Congress has informed that James Lyngdoh was already removed as working president of MPCC for anti-party activities.
