Omicron surge gets brake, 75 new cases in 24 hours

The increase in Omicron cases in India received a pause as number of cases was almost half in last 24 hours compared to Sunday surge.

With 156 new cases on Sunday, the number of cases of the new COVID-19 variant in India had reached 578. The 37 per cent increase has alerted the authorities as it has been reportedly the highest single day increase of the new variant.

On Monday, 75 new cases have been recorded while Delhi and Maharashtra contest closely with total cases at 165 and 167 respectively. In Delhi, the figure of new cases remained constant at 23 while in Maharashtra, 61 new cases were registered compared to 42 cases reported on Sunday.

According to health ministry data released on Tuesday, 6,358 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours as India’s active caseload currently stands at 75,456. In all, 6,450 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours increases, increasing the total recoveries to 3,42,43,945.

As on Tuesday, 142.47 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under nationwide vaccination drive.
