Ms Rashmi Verma, BJP MLA from Narkatiaganj submitted her papers to the Speaker’s office on Sunday.
In her one-line resignation letter, she claimed she was demitting the membership of the House due to personal reasons. Ms Verma’s resignation was not accepted till late Sunday evening as the legislature complex was closed by the Speaker due to COVID. Speaker was also not available.
Rashmi Verma was first elected to Bihar assembly in 2014 on JDU symbol and in 2020 election as BJP candidate. She is from Shikarpur estate in Champaran. Her brother was arrested by Uttar Pradesh STF on January 4 from New Delhi on charges of Uttar Pradesh teachers’ eligibility test papers leak.
Mrs Priyanka Gandhi too had alleged the BJP MLA’s hand in the alleged scam as her brother was found involved.
Mrs Verma could not be contacted as her Mobile numbers on the Assembly and Bihar government diaries were switched off.
In 2020 assembly elections, 74 candidates were elected on BJP symbol.
