Top Maoist commander killed in Chhattisgarh

In a major breakthrough in the operations against the Left-Wing extremism in Chhattisgarh, security forces today morning gunned down a top Maoist commander and his accomplice in restive Bijapur district.

Reports reaching from the spot said that Divisional Committee Member and top commander Muchaki Ungal alias Raghu alias Sudhakar has been neutralised in the operation. One more Maoist was killed during the exchange of fire when the Greyhounds commandoes established contact with the rebels during the operation.

Senior police officials told News Riveting that the elite anti-insurgency force of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh police, the Greyhounds, conducted the operation in the territory of Chhattisgarh while acting on a specific intelligence input. The encounter took place in the forests between Ilmidi and Usoor today morning.

The rebels camping in the area opened fire soon after spotting the commandoes, who took position and retaliated. During the search conducted after the operation, security forces discovered two bodies. One is claimed to be of hardcore Sudhakar; however, the police are in process of identifying the bodies.

One Light Machine Gun (LMG) and Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) were recovered from the spot.

Further details were awaited as the force was yet to withdraw from the forests.
