Martyrs never die! Literally, for the motherland and also for a mother who sacrifices her beloved one for serving the Nation.
But the mother of Basil Toppo, a brave-heart of Chhattisgarh police, stands as an exception to the axiom. She has built a memorial in the village to keep him “alive”.
Basil was posted in Bijapur district police force and deployed in the Bhadrakali police station. During an anti-Maoist operation in the restive part in 2011, rebels blew up the vehicle in which he was traveling with others by detonating a powerful landmine.
He was martyred in the incident. Basil’s mother was inconsolably grieving the loss of her son and urged to build a statue to keep his memory alive. The artists from Kolkata and Odisha crafted the statue that was placed in the memorial constructed in Perva Aara village of Jashpur, bordering Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
“I feel proud of him,” said his mother to news agency ANI. The mother visits the memorial, cares for her beloved and showers all affection to convince herself that her son is still with her. And it has been continuing without a break.
