SECL Director (Technical) M K Prasad gets additional charge of WCL

The Director (Technical) of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Manoj Kumar Prasad has been given additional charge of Director (Technical) with the Western Coalfields Limited (WCL).

The order, issued by the Coal Ministry, will come into effect from February 1 and Prasad will hold the additional assignment for a three months period or till the appointment of regular Director (Technical) in the WCL, another arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL).

With a B.Tech in Mining (Hons) from IIT-BHU Varanasi, Prasad has over 35 years of rich experience in the coal mining industry. He has worked in various capacities at Central Coalfields Ltd, Ranchi, South Eastern Coalfields, Bilaspur, and Northern Coalfields Ltd, Singrauli (M.P). He started his career as a mining engineer in Central Coalfields Limited.

Prasad joined SECL as Director (Technical) in June 2019. In his earlier stint in SECL, he was deployed in Gevra, the largest open cast mine of India from November 2002 to July 2008. Working as Manager in Gevra OCP he introduced Surface Miner for the first time in SECL. He also introduced 42 cum shovels, 240 T dumpers and OB outsourcing. His initiatives had astounding results as the production rose from 19 MTY to 35 MTY.

During his tenure in Piparwar OCP, an Indo Australian Joint Venture, he was responsible for introduction of new technology like Mobile Inpit Crushing and Conveying Technology integrated with Washery which was introduced in India for the first time as a part of Technology Transfer Programme.
