Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) today achieved 173 million cubic meter (MCuM) overburden removal (OB) within 10 months, surpassing the previous high recorded in 2020-21 over 12 months, registering a record growth of 18 per cent during current financial year 2021-22.

The company has already exceeded its own record of 146 million tonne coal dispatch, achieved during last fiscal, and marching towards a new high in off-take with a growth of 22 per cent.

Shri OP Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director congratulated the Team MCL for a record breaking spree in 2022. “It has been an impressive performance by the Team MCL, which is a result of exemplary coordination between the field and support teams working with a great sense of responsibility to meet energy requirements of the Nation,” he said, while appreciating Indian Railways for constantly supporting MCL in liquidating coal stocks at the mines.

“This momentum will continue during the remaining period of the year and I am confident that Team MCL will script a new story of success in coal sector,” the CMD added, expressing gratitude towards the Odisha state administration for continuous support and the trade unions for their cooperation in all efforts of the company.

The higher OB removal facilitates the future growth in coal production and despatch from the company, which is aiming at an aspirational 200 MCuM OB removal during FY’22.

Growing at 15 per cent in coal production, MCL has already produced 138 million tonne of dry fuel.

Despite challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic, MCL has outperformed its previous record registering double digit growth in all major performance parameters of coal production, dispatch and over burden removal.
