The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest executive committee of the grand-old party, has reaffirmed faith in party president Sonia Gandhi’s leadership and urged to continue leading the organisation.
The crucial meeting of the CWC that lasted for five hours on Sunday was convened to deliberate the poll debacle in five states. The party failed miserably in the five states while failed to retain Punjab.
“The CWC reaffirms its faith in the leadership and requests the Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi to lead from the front, address the organisational weaknesses, effect comprehensive organisational changes in order to take on the political challenges,” the party tweeted after the meeting.
The CWC authorised Sonia to take all necessary steps to revamp organisation. Besides, a Chintan Shivir of top leaders will be held immediately after Parliament session to plan future polls, the party said.
Barring former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Defence Minister AK Antony, all other CWC members attended the meeting that was chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretary in-charge of UP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were also present with the G-23 members that included Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma who called the party defeats shocking and demanded an urgent roadmap for revival.
