The Jharkhand High Court on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the role of police officials who kept the investigations of alleged sport scam in Jharkhand pending for the last 12 years.
Earlier, Division bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad the handed over the Jharkhand National Games scam to the CBI. The order was passed while hearing a batch of PILs filed. The matter is related to the 34th National Games that was held in February 2011.
The court directed the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Jharkhand to hand over all documents of the cases to the CBI including the construction of the sports complex. It also directed the agency to inform the court if the department or official were reluctant to cooperate in the investigation.
General secretary of the Jharkhand Wrestlers Association Bholanath Singh had lodged a complaint with the Jharkhand Anti-Corruption Bureau alleging a largescale corruption in organizing the games. The Bureau lodged an FIR 49/2010 and during the course of the investigation, it filed two charge sheets claimed shady deals of Rs 28.38 crore in the name of organizing games.
However, it did not probe the alleged irregularities in the procurements of equipment and construction of sports infrastructure. The complainants claimed that the role of senior officials was not investigated and only small fishes were grilled in the investigation.
