Patna, May 13
The Patna High Court on Friday issued arrest warrant for Sahara India Chief Subrata Roy for non-admittance at the court despite clear instructions.
Earlier, the Patna High Court had adopted a harsh stance against Roy on Thursday for failing to appear in court. The single bench of Justice Sandeep Kumar had issued an order to Sahara Chief to appear in court on Friday at 10.30 am.
In its order on April 27, the High Court had asked Roy to appear before the court on May 11. Since he did not turn up, the court gave another chance and asked to physically appear on May 12. The Sahara Chief did not comply.
Subroto Roy’s counsel claimed yesterday that his client was unable to attend due to illness. Medical certifications and diagnosis documents were also provided before Justice Kumar. However, it could not satisfy the court.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has granted stay on the arrest of Roy till further order. The single bench of Justice A M Khanwilkar passed the order and posted the next hearing for May 19.
