Landlocked Chhattisgarh state has recorded a three-fold increase in the export over a period of last three years.
According to state’s industry department data, the exports from Chhattisgarh touched Rs 9067.92 crore in the year 2019-20, while in the year 2021-22, it was pegged at Rs 25241.13 crore. Over the period, iron and steel exports surged seven and a half times while shipping of rice recorded 4.68 times increase. Similarly, export of aluminum and aluminum products increased by two folds.
The industrial policy of the state for the year 2019-24 has been attributed for the feat as the Bhupesh Baghel government has made many industry-friendly provisions to ease doing business in the state. Besides the single window system, provision has been made to give special concession in taxes to the products exported from the state, on the transportation cost of the products exported from the unit level to the nearest port.
Due to the provisions of export promotion in the industrial policy of the state, a significant increase has been registered in the exports of the state in the last three years between the year 2019-20 to the year 2021-22.
There has been a significant increase in exports from the state in the financial year 2021-22 as well despite COVID induced slowdown. A total of Rs 25241.13 crore has been exported in the financial year 2021-22, in which the main product rice was worth Rs 8559.12 crore, iron and steel Rs 7386.13 crore and aluminum, aluminum products Rs 6026.48 crore.
According to officials, besides concessions, the state government has taken a number of initiatives that included selection and quality assessment of products for export and coordination with national institutions. The efforts yielded the desired results.
