BJP gets two and Congress one in Madhya Pradesh

Congress on Friday bagged two seats in Chhattisgarh and one in Madhya Pradesh as its candidates were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.
The BJP could get one seat in Madhya Pradesh.
The Congress has fielded journalist-turned-politician Rajeev Shukla and Bihar’s Ranjeet Ranjan as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections from Chhattisgarh. The election was necessitated as the term of BJP’s Ramvichar Netam and Chhaya Verma of Congress ended.
With 71 members out of 90 in Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Congress was set to get both the seats. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended Friday afternoon. The Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha election and Chhattisgarh Assembly Secretary Dinesh Sharma declared both the candidates elected unopposed.
While Ranjeet Ranjan was personally present to receive the election certificate, Rajiv Shukla had sent his brother Sudhir Shukla to collect the same. Of the four seats in Chhattisgarh, Congress now has three while BJP has one.
In Madhya Pradesh, Congress leader and senior lawyer Vivek Tankha and the BJP’s Sumitra Valmiki and Kavita Patidar were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh on Friday, an official said here.
While Tankha was elected for the second consecutive term in the Upper House of Parliament, Valmiki and Patidar are making their debuts.
The current terms of Tankha as well as two BJP Rajya Sabha MPs from the state, M J Akbar and Sampatiya Uike, are ending this month. Of total 11 Rajya Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has eight to its kitty while the Congress has three members to the Upper House from the state.
