Chhattisgarh Govt to bear education expenses of brave Rahul

The Chhattisgarh government will bear the education expenses of Rahul Sahu, the 11-year-old boy who battled for life inside a borewell for over 105 hours before being rescued past midnight on Tuesday.

Rahul accidentally fell into a borewell in Pihrid village of Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district and stuck 80-feet beneath on Friday. The NDRF, SDF, Indian Army and location administration launched a massive search operation. But the challenges were rocky.

The mental state of the boy and the obstruction failed the initial attempts to pull the trapped person using a metallic hook attached to a rope—a successful operation conducted recently by the Indian Army in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district. The Army personnel securely entangled the hook to the child’s clothes and steadily pulled him up.

The only option left was to dig a parallel tunnel to reach upto Rahul. As the team advanced, huge rocks created obstacles that delayed the process. Anyhow, the mission was completed and Rahul, who braved the challenges in the narrow pit, was finally extricated from the borewell past midnight. He was immediately shifted to a hospital in Bilaspur where his condition is stable.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who has been monitoring the rescue operations even from Delhi, rushed to the hospital soon after returning from the national capital today. He met Rahul and his family members before taking a briefing from the doctors about his health condition.

Rahul’s mother Geeta burst into tears on seeing Bhupesh Baghel and fell at his feet in reverence for saving her child. He asked Rahul about his education. The boy however could not respond normally because of some neuro ailment.

The Chief Minister said the state government would bear the education expenses. It will also bear the medical expenses of the brave boy, from whom struggle was no new.

By birth, he had some medical issues that obstructed his normal activities. But Rahul did not give up. Despite being dropped from the school, he learnt playing “tabla” and “dhol”. Rahul pedals cycle and also swims.

Escaping his life even after staying 105 hours inside a tunnel with few bananas and drinks, and that too with snake and scorpion, this was just another story of brave Rahul!
