Left-wing extremists have threatened to behead Namrata Singh, daughter of senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer late Narayan Singh.
The 1977-batch IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre passed away in February 2020. Known for his simplicity and low-profile bureaucrat, Singh has served as Additional Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh besides heading the electricity regulatory commission as his last assignment.
He belonged to Panabaras princely state in Mohala-Maanpur area of Rajnandgaon district. After a pause, Maoists activities had been noticed recently in the pocket that adjoins Maharashtra Gadchiroli district.
Chhattisgarh’s leading Hindi Daily Haribhoomi reported that the rebels recently held a Kangaroo court and issued a death sentence against Namrata Singh. Besides Namrata, who is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the rebels had also warned to execute the party’s Mandal President Raju Tandiya. The Maoists had stuck pamphlets in the remote areas threatening to take stringent action.
Tandiya in a video message said that the activities of Left extremists had increased in the area and they had been threatening the cadre of BJP. “Following the threat perception, the police administration had earlier provided a security cover but it had been withdrawn,” he said.
