HNLU-CGSBB organizes national conference on traditional knowledge, bio-diversity

Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh State Biodiversity Board (CGSBB) organised a two-day National-level Conference on Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Biodiversity: Problems and Prospects.

The inaugural ceremony of the conference was graced by esteemed government officials. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Praveen Shrivastava, PCCF and Member Secretary, Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board, while the Guest of Honour was Arun Kumar Pandey, IFS, APCCF and Member Secretary, CG State Biodiversity Board.

Other key dignitaries that graced the occasion were Prem Kumar, Secretary, Department of Forest and Climate Change, Govt of CG, Srinivas Tenneti, Deputy Secretary, Department of Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of CG and Atul Shukla, Director, SFRTI. Prof. (Dr.) V.C. Vivekanandan, Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Uday Shankar, Registrar, Dr Ankit Awasthi, Organizing Secretary and Abhinav Shukla, Organizing Co-Secretary along with the organizing committee, faculty members and students were also present at the ceremony.

Day one of the conference witnessed two thought-provoking technical sessions wherein participants from reputed universities and institutions presented their papers and one enlightening Panel Discussion in which the panellists had an intriguing deliberation on “Traditional Knowledge for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development”.

The Conference had Panel discussions and technical sessions. Two Panel discussions were conducted on the themes of “Traditional Knowledge for Biodiversity & Sustainable Development” and “Utilization of Traditional Knowledge and Community Engagement: Access & Benefit Sharing”.

Dr Amit Dubey, Scientist, IPR Centre, CG Council of Science and Technology, Prof. (Dr.) M K Ramesh, Former Professor, NLSIU, Bangalore, Dr Ghazala Javed, Research Officer, CCRUM, M/o AYUSH, Government of India, Pravin Shrivastava, Raju Agasimani, Chief Conservator of Forest, Kanker, Dr Neeti Wilson, Partner, Anand and Anand, Prof. (Dr.) Anindya Sircar, Dr Kalpana Sastri, Former Director of National Academy of Agricultural and Management, Prof. Ganesh Hingmire, Founder of GMGC and Dr A K Gupta, Registrar & Professor, the University of Transdisciplinary Health Sciences & Technology Bengaluru were the resource persons for these panel discussions.

The conference had an overwhelming response from students, research scholars and professionals across the nation and after due scrutiny 41 papers have been selected for paper presentations in four technical sessions on 11 sub-themes.

In technical sessions, Prof (Dr.) Anindya Sircar, Prof. Ganesh Hingmire, Prof. (Dr.) Rajiv Khare, Professor, NLIU, Bhopal, Dr K. Syamala, Associate Professor-cum-Director (Research & Training), NUSRL, Ranchi, Prof. (Dr.) Tarun Thakur, Professor & Head, Department of Environmental Science, IGNTU and Pratik Verma, Legal Advisor, Chhattisgarh State Biodiversity Board were the resource persons.

Dr V. B. Mathur, Chairman, National Biodiversity Authority, New Delhi and Rakesh Chaturvedi, Chairman, C.G. State Biodiversity Board and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, C.G. Forest Department graced the Valedictory Ceremony of the conference.

This conference witnessed the participation of leading law schools and other institutions in India as West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Gujarat National Law University, Maharashtra National Law University, NLSRL, Ranchi, CNLU, Patna, Pondicherry University, School of International Studies, JNU, New Delhi, Central University of South Bihar, O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat and Christ University to name a few.
