Raipur, August 3

The Income Tax department is conducting search and seizure operations on four groups in Chhattisgarh associated with the steel manufacturing and trading.

The operation started early in the morning on Wednesday. The IT officials however did not involve the Chhattisgarh police and preferred to take cover from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). About 80 personnel are involved in the operation.

The searches are being carried out at Raipur, Bilaspur, Raigarh and Kharora. Besides the residence of the Directors of the three companies and their industrial facilities, the team had also reached the office of their respective Chartered Accountants (CAs).

The groups where the search operations are going on are not big names in the industry. Besides tax evasion, the IT team is scanning the documents of the companies to establish the links of money transfer to a state where election has been concluded recently.

A firm associated with an MLA has also been reportedly covered in the search.

However, the IT officials have not come out with any official statement on the issue.
