“Shooter” in BJP

Internationally acclaimed shooter and recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award Shreyasi Singh today joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar.

With a rich political background, the 29-year-old Indian shooter won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia – Women’s double trap and a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Shreyasi’s father Digivijay Singh is former union minister of state for railways and mother Ms Putul Devi, a former MP, both from the princely estate of Gidhaur. She won gold medal in 61st national National Shooting Championship while representing Bihar, in 2017.

Now, she would try her luck in the electoral politics from her native state. Shreyasi announced she would contest the coming assembly elections from the traditional constituency of her parents in Jamui district.

Her father and grand-father were presidents of the National Rifle Association.

Digvijay Singh was one of the founders of Samta Party along with George Fernandes and Nitish Kumar after splitting from Lalu Prasad Yadav. Later, Samta Party was renamed Janata Dal and Digvijay Singh revolted against Nitish Kumar.
