Jamshedpur, September 12
Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) signed a multi-purpose Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with District Administration of East Singhbhum at the Collectorate today.
The agreement endeavours to enhance public service delivery by providing strategic direction and building capacities of department functionaries in health, education, and social welfare.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Vijaya Jadhav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum and Sourav Roy, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel Foundation. As part of this, the Foundation would provide technical inputs towards strengthening the capacities of public officials and frontline workers for effective delivery of public services through classroom sessions and on-the-job training. The trainings would be need-based and focus on both technical and leadership aspects.
Addressing the gathering, Roy said, “The MoU is a befitting step towards scaling up our programmes across the district of East Singhbhum in a way that is most impactful. MANSI, our programme on maternal and neonatal mortality, is poised to further the health agenda across every village in the district. Through SABAL, we intend to reach each Person with Disability in the district and ensure a life of dignity through an identified set of engagements. Our skill building capacities are working in remote sections of the district and all three are keen to address core development challenges.”
The MoU signed today will ensure various interventions in the domains of public health, skill development and capacity building for supporting disability. In the public health domain, initiatives like capacity building of staff of Department of Health and Department of Social Welfare, Training of Mata Samitis Members on food safety and general hygiene and provision for identifying and facilitating Cataract Surgeries for reducing preventable blindness with Department of Health would be undertaken. In addition, a set of 15000 mosquito nets have been handed over to the district administration of East Singhbhum.
In the skill development sector, TSF aims to undertake initiatives like imparting vocational training to eligible youth for gainful employment, organising capacity building of eligible youth and provide placement assistance through Model Career Centre and setting-up skill development centre in the district.
The project would also include supporting disability through training Anganwadi Workers for identification of PwDs and enabling digital profiling of PwDs for Government Scheme Linkages, educating Panchayati Raj Institutions members about the basic entitlements for PwDs and Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016 for better enablement to PwDs in their respective areas.
The MoU is valid till March 2027 (5 years) and shall be executed through a Project Management Unit.
