Congress party would not be attending the huge opposition meet organised in Haryana on Sunday to mark the 129th birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal.

The JD(U) spokesperson K C Tyagi said today that the Congress party had not yet been invited. He, however, clarified in an interview to NDTV that under Nitish Kumar’s unity plan, Congress, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, the Left parties, Telangana’s K Chandrashekar Rao and Arvind Kejriwal — all are included. He added they do not believe in “political untouchability”.

The prominent opposition leaders likely to attend the meet include NCP’s Sharad Pawar, Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray, K Chandrashekar Rao and DMK’s Kanimozhi. The Indian National Lok Dal’s rally has been organised in Haryana’s Fatehabad on September 25.

Tyagi said RJD leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury and BJP leader Birender Singh have also given their consent to attend the rally to mark the birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister and INLD founder Devi Lal.

Though Tyagi said Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar would be meeting Congress president a day after the rally, political observers said efforts were on to revive the third front and maintain equal distance with BJP and Congress.
