Six Pakistan Army personnel including two majors were killed in a helicopter crash near Khost in Harnai of Balochistan province late last night.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media affairs wing, however did not specify the cause of accident. A month ago, six army men including a Lieutenant General ranked officer were killed in a helicopter crash in the same province.
The victims have been identified as 39-year-old Major Khurram Shahzad (pilot), 30-year-old Major Muhammad Muneeb Afzal (pilot), 44-year-old Subedar Abdul Wahid, 27-year-old Sepoy Muhamad Imran, 30-year-old Naik Jalil and 35-year-old Sepoy Shoaib. Of the victims, three jawans were from the special service group (SSG), the special forces unit of the Pakistan Army.
The helicopter belonged to the Army Aviation Corps was on an operational air assault and fire support mission. According to sources, the crash was due to a technical malfunction.
On August 1, a Pakistan Army helicopter with six people on board, including Commander 12 Corps Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali, lost control with the air traffic control in Balochistan’s Lasbela district. A day later, the wreckage of the helicopter was found near Musa Goth, with all personnel on board killed. The ISPR had attributed bad weather as the cause of accident.
