AIIMS Raipur bus meets with accident; 1 killed, 14 injured

In a tragic road mishap, a nursing staff member of All India Institute of medical sciences (AIIMS) Raipur died while 14 others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in, plunged into a culvert after hitting slab near the Bhanpuri in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh.

Of the injured, the condition of two is reported to be critical. According to police sources, the staff members of AIIMS last night started from Raipur to visit the picturesque Chitrakote falls and other tourist destinations in Bastar. The travellers included maximum staff hailing from Kerala.

The senior police officials said at around 5 am, Rajesh, who was behind the wheels, lost control over the steering probably due to napping. The vehicle first hit the culvert slab and turned turtle into into the canal.

Soon after getting information, Bhanpuri police reached the spot with ambulances and arranged to shift the injured to the primary health centre. The police had to struggle to pull out the body that was trapped in the mangled remains of the vehicle.

The crane was pressed into the service to lift the vehicle and extract the body. Based on the PAN card, the police identified the victim as Somesh C. He is reported to be a native of Kannur district in Kerala.

Two ambulances from AIIMS Raipur reached Bhanpuri to take the injured to the state capital for further treatment. Sources said of the 14 injured, the condition of two was reported to be critical.
