The meritorious students of board examinations in Chhattisgarh took sorties in choppers as promised by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to recognise their talents and propel them to fly high.

In the maiden attempt to cheer the meritorious students, 125 toppers took a joyride in a helicopter. Of them, 35 were of class 12 while 90 students were from class 10 merit list. Chhattisgarh’s School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekam along with department officials was present at the police ground helipad to flag off the trip.

The flight was arranged in a group of 7 students on 7-seater choppers. The programme was part of the Swami Atmanand Medhavi Chhatra Protsahan Yojana and had been executed with the consent of the parents. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had announced the programme on May 5 during his Bhet Mulaqat campaign.

Sharing her experience, Yamini Kunjam said, “I had only dreamed that I would sit in a helicopter, but today my dream has been fulfilled by the Chief Minister.” She was ranked in the top-10 with 97.6 percent marks in class X of Sanskar Higher Secondary School, Rajnandgaon,  

Devanand Kumeti, a student of Swami Vivekananda Vidyapeeth of Abujhmand in district Narayanpur, said, “I scored 90 per cent in the 10th board despite coming from the pocket where sunlight also fails to reach.” It was a great experience and fun to fly high, he added.

The other students also narrated the experience on similar lines. They took the ride around Raipur and saw how the Chhattisgarh capital looks from a height. Besides students, the parents were also equally excited when they reached the helipad to drop their children.
