Poll panel announces Himachal election schedules, holds back Gujarat

The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced the schedule for the elections in Himachal Pradesh while held back the dates for the Gujarat.

The term of the Gujarat Assembly ends on February 18, 2023, while the term of the Himachal House will end on January 8, 2023. As per the ECI schedule, the voting in Himachal Pradesh for the 68 membered state legislative assembly will take place on November 12 while the counting of votes will be done on December 8.

Announcing the schedule for the Himachal polls at a press conference here, Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) Rajiv Kumar said voting would take place in a single phase on November 12. The last date to file the nomination is going to October 25 and the counting of votes for the state assembly election will take place on December 8, he added.

The notification for the polls will be announced on October 17, the date from which nominations for the polls will begin.

The Congress and the BJP on Friday welcomed the Election Commission’s announcement of assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh and said they are all geared up for the November 12 polling.

In the elections to the 68-member assembly with over 55 lakh eligible voters, the BJP will seek to overturn the three-decade convention of no ruling party returning to power by defeating the main opposition Congress in the hill state.
