NTPC develops software to evert boiler accident

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has developed indigenous technology for prediction of accidents in boilers.

Ramesh Babu V, Director (Operations) today inaugurated the Boiler Health and Boiler Tube Leakage Prediction Dashboard during the Heads of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Meet presently underway at Panhmarhi in Madhya Pradesh. The Software has been developed inhouse using internal domain expertise of COS Boiler, Chemistry and Corporate IT group.

The Dashboard has been launched today in Ramagundam U7. It would be launched simultaneously in Kahalgaon, Farakka, Dadri and Ramagundam all units by end of March 2023. It would be costless implementation across NTPC using Unit PI data on Intranet.

Ashwini Kumar Tripathy, RED West II and OS, C Sivakumar, ED USSC along with all Heads of O&M from all NTPC Thermal Power Plants, Senior Officials from Corporate OS, Fuel Management, Safety, Commercial were present on the occasion.

The development is likely to predict and control the vapor explosion-induced accidents in boilers. A staggering 23,000 boiler accidents have been recorded worldwide over the past 10 years, wherein India alone accounts for the 34 per cent of global deaths.
