The police have discovered the body of Maoist commander Deva alias Tirri Madkami with weapons found under suspicious circumstances in Jiakorta forest near Bhusaras valley under Kuakonda police station of district Dantewada.

The deceased Maoist cadre was a member of Katekalyan Area Committee of CPI (Maoist) Organization of Darbha Division and more than nine criminal cases were registered against him in Dantewada and Sukma districts. He was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head.

On Tuesday morning, the police received information that a body of an unknown person was lying in Jiakorta forest near Bhusaras valley on the border of Dantewada-Sukma district. A joint party of Dantewada police and CRPF 230th battalion reached the spot and recovered the body. Later, it was identified as that of hardcore Maoist Deva.

Though the exact reason of death could not be ascertained, police suspected infighting in the Maoist organization or the anti-people activities of the rebels that could have killed Deva. However, the police had started the probe to establish the cause that led to the killing of Deva, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Siddharth Tiwari said.

Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sunderraj P said the CPI (Maoists) had been damaging roads, bridges and culverts and public property besides torturing innocent villagers for the past several years. They had deprived the people of the area from availing the basic amenities. “The villagers are deeply resented by the Maoists for their anti-people activities and this will lead to the elimination of the rebels in future,” Sundarraj added.
