SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s largest Blast Furnace – Blast Furnace 8 (BF 8), christened Mahamaya has become the fastest in SAIL to have crossed the 11 million tonnes (MT) cumulative production on Monday.

BF 8’s journey from 10 MT to 11 MT has been completed in 144 days. BF 8 is Bhilai’s modern blast furnace with advanced automation & control systems. The 10 MT milestone had been crossed by BF 8 on 21st July 22

The total cumulative days for BF 8 to reach 11 MT since its blowing in on 2nd Feb 2018 is 1775 days, which is much less when compared to 1830 days that Rourkela Steel Plant’s blast furnace of similar capacity took to cross 11 MT and 2067 days of IISCO Steel Plant’s blast furnace of similar capacity took to cross the 11 MT milestone.

Director In-charge, Bhilai Steel Plant, Anirban Dasgupta, ED (Works) Anjani Kumar and senior officers of the Plant congratulated the members of Mahamaya Team and all supporting shops & departments for crossing the 11 MT milestone.

It may be recalled that BF 8’s journey from 1 MT to 2 MT took 165 days. BF 8 completed journey from 2 MT to 3 MT in 161 days. It took BF 8 155 days to touch 4 MT from 3 MT. BF 8’s journey from 4 MT to 5 MT took 149 days. BF 8 took the same time period of 149 days from 5 MT to 6 MT.

BF 8 completed journey from 6 MT to 7 MT took 141 days. The journey from 7 to 8 MT was completed in 154 days. BF 8’s journey from 8 MT to 9 MT was completed in record time of 138 days. BF 8’s journey from 9 MT to 10 MT was completed in 160 days, and now the journey from 10 MT to 11 MT has been completed in 144 days.
