Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, the 1990 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar.
Bhatti was serving as the ADG of Border Security Force (BSF) Eastern Command. He also served as ADG Command Headquarter (Anti Naxal Operations). During his tenure, he had visited forward posts in the Maoists stronghold of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, and designed new strategies to combat the red army.
Known as an upright officer, he had also worked in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as the joint director in Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency (MDMA) that was conducting investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and in 2017. He was also appointed as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) in Air Authority of India (AAI).
He had also served as DIG of Siwan and dared to act against many influential political leaders and high-profile criminals of Bihar including RJD MP Shahabuddin, Prabhunath Singh and Dilip Kumar Singh. They were wanted in many criminal cases.
Bhatti would succeed Sanjeev Kumar Singhal, IPS officer of 1988 batch.
For the past fortnight, many names had come to the fore for the coveted post. Among them included 1989 batch IPS and DG Training Alok Raj, 1990 batch IPS and central deputation RS Bhatti and 1990 batch IPS and DG Fire and Home Guard Services Shobha Ohatkar. The name of 1988 batch IPS Manmohan Singh, a native of Punjab and of Bihar cadre, was also said to be included in the race.
The DGP was to be selected from the three names sent from the Centre. Manmohan Singh is currently on Central deputation and is currently posted as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar finally picked up Rajwinder Singh Bhatti.
