In a horrific incident in tribal dominated Boriyo village, 325 km west from here, a 22-year-old Pahariya woman, Rubika was cut into 50 pieces with an electric cutter by her husband Dilawar Ansari and his in-laws.

Sahibganj police on Sunday recovered 18 parts from three different places including Anganwadi Centre, an abandoned godown of pickles manufacturing unit and Godipur-Bariyhar market. Her head could not be recovered. Police found garments used by her at different places in a radius of one km. Her slipper was found in a nearby field.

Rubika, a Hindi and a resident of Bela Tola had married Dildar about two months ago. They were in living-in relation for the last two years. Dildar was already married and his second marriage was opposed by his parents.

Sudarshan Mandal, DIG of police, who visited the village said police have arrested Dildar and his five family members. During interrogation, Dildar has confessed to the crime.

Manoj, son of village head (mukhiya) of Boriyo Erika Marandi, said in the morning today he found two dismembered legs of a woman being carried by dogs through the market and informed the police. Sheela, elder sister of deceased, Rubika told police Dildar had telephoned her on Saturday and informed he has killed Rubika.

Former Chief Minister Raghuwar Das regretted the brutal killing of tribal woman and demanded speedy trial in a fast-track court.

Lobin Hembrim, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA from Boriyo said outsiders were exploiting tribals and marrying local girls for land. He called the incident an act of Love Jehad and demanded strict enforcement of PESA in the state.

Amar Kumar Bowri, a former minister of BJP and tribal leader said Pahariyas were the tribals identified as on the verge of extinction and government of India had notified them as protected tribals. Under article 244 of the Constitution, Jharkhand is included in schedule 9 that guarantees protection of tribals rights on land.

Pahariyas are protected by the Government of India as their population is declining fast. They are found in certain pockets of Santhal Parganas in Jharkhand and neighbouring districts in West Bengal and Bihar
