Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu was on Monday tested positive for COVID ahead of his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi that was scheduled for 11 am.
The test was undertaken as part of the protocol before meeting the Prime Minister. Although Sukhu is asymptomatic, the meeting with the Prime Minister and his other engagements in the national capital have been cancelled. The meeting with the Prime Minister was a courtesy call on behalf of Sukhu after assuming the office of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister.
The three-day winter session, as is the practice, is going to be held at Dharamsala. The Chief Minister was supposed to return to the state capital on Monday afternoon after meeting the Prime Minister.
Officials said he could be in quarantine for five days. However, it could not be confirmed that the first session and also the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha would be postponed that was scheduled to commence on December 22.
Meanwhile, Chander Kumar, a six-time MLA from Jawali in Kangra, will be administered the oath of pro-tem Speaker by the Governor.
Being the first session of the Assembly, the newly-elected MLA’s will be administered oath. The election of the Speaker will also take place during the session.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will address the maiden session of the new assembly.
