Former Union Minister and Chhattisgarh in-charge of All India Congress Committee (AICC) party Kumari Selja chaired a meeting of Block Presidents of the party to note down the organisational performance at the ground level.
Selja landed here on Sunday evening on her maiden visit after taking over the new responsibility in Chhattisgarh that goes to the polls later next year. On Monday, she held a meeting with the Presidents of the Block Congress Committee at party headquarters Rajiv Bhavan.
AICC in-charge secretary Saptagiri Shankar Ulaka, state Congress President Mohan Markam, PCC executive committee members and senior leaders were present on the occasion. Sources said a few office bearers stressed for improving coordination between the government and the organisation. Selja noted down the points raised by the Block President while Markam responded by clarifying that their concerns and feelings would be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister.
Addressing the meeting, Kumari Selja said that the Congress party was strong because it had been connected to the land. “Congress has been the party of mass movement. If the blocks and booths are not strong then the structure of the party will be weak,” she said, adding that the block leaders who had come from far away were the real strength of the party. She added that they had heard the block leaders today and noted down the issues raised by them.
“The Congress party recognizes the power of the organization. The party will be strengthened through you only,” Selja said. The Congress party is more open than other parties to listen to its workers, she added.
Ulaka said that democracy was possible only in the Congress, where the block presidents were directly communicating with the in-charge of the party. “We have to form the government again in Chhattisgarh in 2023 and defeat the BJP in 2024 to save the country,” Ulaka added. He said the government had passed the reservation bill, but the Governor was not signing it. “The conspiracy behind this is of the BJP,” he said.
