SECL crosses last year’s OBR figure much ahead in current fiscal

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has crossed last year’s total overburden removal (OBR) much ahead in the current financial year ever as the company reported record increase in dry fuel production.

“The company has crossed last year’s total OBR figure of 195.22 million cubic meters, almost two and a half months before the end of this financial year,” SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr Prem Sagar Mishra said in his Republic Day speech. Earlier, he furled the National Tricolour at the SECL headquarters in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

Director Technical (Operation) S K Pal, Director (Finance) G. Srinivasan, Director Technical (Planning/Project) S N Kapri, Director (Personnel) Debashish Acharya, Steering Committee Member Haridwar Singh (Etak), various Heads of Departments, Shram Sangh office bearers were present on the occasion. The CMD took the salute of an impressive parade led by Deputy Manager (Security) V Dakshinamurthy.

Mishra said SECL continued to grow with an increase in production of over 18.2 million tonnes (18 per cent) over last year, which is the highest increase ever recorded since the inception of the company. At OBR, SECL’s team has recorded an increase of more than 51 million cubic meters (34 per cent) from last year, which is the highest growth since the establishment of SECL, he added.

“I am happy to inform you that our MDO underground mine of Bishrampur region has started coal production from January 10 and has earned the distinction of being the first underground coal mine in India to produce coal in MDO mode. LOIs have been issued for commissioning two other mines of the company – Pelma and Madannagar open pits – on MDO mode, while the tendering process is on for commissioning four discontinued underground mines on MDO mode through revenue sharing model,” Mishra said.

Through the efforts, they have restarted Amgaon open pit mine in Bishrampur region after almost four years in the financial year, while Rampur-Batura open pit mine in Sohagpur is also ready for coal production. These are important achievements in terms of capacity expansion of the company, Mishra said.  

The SECL Board has approved extensive changes in the policy related to land acquisition procedures so that the affected parties have started getting better and attractive payments. In some cases, with the help of the state government, two decades old and pending cases have also been resolved. Consequently, in the year 2022, SECL has sanctioned 647 jobs in land acquisition cases which is the highest number of jobs given in any one year since the inception of the company.
