Raipur, February 23
The Congress party’s 85th plenary session starting in Chhattisgarh capital from Friday will deliberate on six resolutions with focus on the ensuing elections and rejuvenation of the grand-old party.
At the customary press conference held here today evening on the eve of the three-day session, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said giving the final shape to the roadmap for upcoming state assembly and general elections would be in the priority list during the plenary session. The delegates would deliberate on the alliances with regional parties and the formation of united opposition against the BJP, he added.
The proposed resolution would discuss politics, economy, international affairs, youth, employment, agriculture and social justice. The steering committee will meet on Friday morning, while the subjects committee will meet in the evening.
Ramesh said the Steering Committee would take a call on the election of Congress Working Committee (CWC) members and the situation would be clear by noon on Friday. The Steering Committee is acting as the Working Committee as the previous one was dissolved until a new CWC was formed. The Committee will decide on whether there will be elections to the top decision-making body or not.
Around 15,000 delegates of the party, 1,338 elected and 487 co-opted AICC members, 9,915 PCC delegates and 3,000 co-opted PCC delegates are expected to join the three-day plenary session to finalize the agenda.
Chhattisgarh Congress Committee Chief and Reception Committee Chairman Mohan Markam said former Congress Presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were expected to attend the session.
On February 26, Congress will hold a public meeting in a ground in-front of Agriculture College in Raipur. The venue is named after senior leader of state and former AICC treasurer, Late Motilal Vora. The session will conclude at 2 pm followed by a rally at 4 pm. Along with party leaders and activists across Chhattisgarh, 15,000 delegates attending the session will participate in the rally, Markam said.
