Kashmiri Pandit’s killer eliminated in Pulwama encounter

Security forces gunned down the militant involved in the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.

Sharma, a bank guard, was shot dead by terrorists on Sunday morning barely 100 metres from his home at Achan in Pulwama when he was on his way to the local market. He was rushed to a hospital by passersby but he succumbed to the injuries.

He was cremated at his native village in Pulwama on Monday.

A senior official said a joint team of Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Padgampora area of Awantipora following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

Additional Director General of Police Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar said the militant who killed Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma in Pulwama, has been killed in Awantipora encounter today morning. Kashmir zone police while quoting ADGP Kumar said the militant killed in the encounter has been identified as Aqib Mushtaq Bhat of Pulwama. 

“Aqib was an A category militant and was initially working with Hizbul Mujahideen, but nowadays was working with TRF,” he added.
