Vaishali police have arrested Raj Kapoor Singh, father of Jaykishore Singh, who laid down his life to save India’s inch of land from the Chinese in Galwan valley three years ago.
He was one of the 20 martyrs of the Galwan valley clash with Chinese Army of June, 2020. The father was sent to judicial custody on charges of setting up the martyr’s memorial on government land and under various sections of the IPC and SC/ST prevention of atrocities Act.
According to Poonam Keshri, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Mahuwa in Vaishali district, Rajkapoor Singh had obstructed the movement of others on the passage leading to the colony of dalits. Harinath Ram, a local resident, had filed an FIR against Raj Kapoor Singh alleging the martyr’s father had grabbed government land for construction of the memorial, put a statue of his martyred son on the government land.
No sanction was obtained from the authorities to build a memorial on the government land, she said.
SDPO had visited Singh’s house and directed him to remove “encroachments” on government land within 15 days. Proceedings under sections 107 and 188 of IPC had started against him in the court of the sub-divisional magistrate of Mahuwa.
Younger brother of martyr Jaykishore Singh, who is also a member of the paramilitary force, however disputed the claim of Harinath Ram and said his brother’s memorial was built on his family land. His father has been falsely implicated under the SC/ST Act to prevent even getting bail.
He alleged the police entered his house late last evening, beat the family members, dragged and thrashed the father of the martyr to a police jeep and sent him to jail. Officer-in-charge of Jandaha police station led an assault on the family members, he alleged.
Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal and Vidyarthi Parishad workers have demanded immediate release of Raj Kapoor Singh. They held a meeting near the memorial and alleged Jandaha police assaulted the family members, including women at night. They asked the government to build a martyr’s memorial at the same place in the village.
