Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday sent a team of officials to Tamil Nadu to make on the spot study of the reported assault and murder of Bihari migrant workers.
Team is expected to reach Chennai on Saturday.
According to Chief Minister Office, Kumar summoned the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police in his assembly chamber and directed them to immediately send a team of officers to the different places in Tamil Nadu where assault on Bihari migrant labourers have been reported.
Bihar officers will visit the “affected areas” and meet the migrant workers and their families. They will interact with the local officials of Tamil Nadu government and request them to ensure safety of the Bihari workers.
Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to monitor the situation regularly as the state government is sensitive on the issue. The development came after Tamil Nadu DGP C Sylendra Babu bluntly refused any incident of attack on migrant Bihari labourers taking place in the state and termed the videos on social media as fake.
Additional DG of police (law and order) is in constant touch with his Tamil Nadu counterpart.
Murder and assault on the migrant workers at different places in Tamil Nadu rocked the budget session of Bihar legislature for the second consecutive day on Friday. Leader of Opposition Vijay Kumar Sinha alleged DGP of Tamil Nadu had made false claim that the workers are safe there.
He cited statements of two migrant workers who telephoned him on Thursday evening alleging the local workers were brutally assaulting them. About 100 youths from Sikandara in Jamui district are stranded at Tirupur and even the factory owner asked them to leave Tamil Nadu.
He claimed workers from Tamil Nadu are against the Bihari workers as their presence adversely affected their earning. Tamil workers were getting Rs 1000 per day as wages for the same work done by Bihari workers for Rs 600 daily. Tamil workers worked for six hours, but Bihari workers worked from 8 am to 6 pm, Sinha claimed.
A five member delegation of BJP leaders led by Sinha and leader of opposition in Bihar Vidhan Parishad, Samrat Chaudhury met Chief Minister and demanded running of special trains to bring the migrant workers back to Bihar under police escort. Kumar assured them he would talk to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin.
