Former Chief Justice of the High Courts of Chhattisgarh, Calcutta, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan passed away on Monday.
Justice Radhakrishnan, 63, was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Kochi. According to hospital authorities, he breathed his last in the wee hours of Monday. He is survived by his wife Meera Sen and children Parvathy Nair and Keshavaraj Nair.
Born on April 29, 1959 to late N Bhaskaran Nair and late K Parukutty Amma, Justice Radhakrishnan had judiciary in his blood. His parents were also lawyers and practiced in Kollam district of Kerala.
He did his schooling in St. Joseph’s Convent and Government Boys’ High School, Kollam, the Arya Central School, Thiruvananthapuram and secured ISC conferred by the University of Cambridge (Local Examination Syndicate), having studied in Trinity Lyceum, Kollam.
After obtaining a B.Sc. Degree in Zoology from the University of Kerala as a student of the Fatima Matha National College, Kollam, he secured LL.B. Degree from the KGF Law College of Bangalore University.
In December 1983, he was enrolled as a lawyer and commenced his practice at Thiruvananthapuram as junior to late advocate P Ramakrishna Pillai. He shifted his practice to the Kerala High Court after five years and joined the office of the late Senior Advocate P Sukumaran Nair.
On October 14, 2004, Justice Radhakrishnan was sworn-in as permanent Judge of the High Court of Kerala. He was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court on May 13, 2016.
He was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court on March 18, 2017 and continued in the position till July 6, 2018 before he was transferred as Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Justice Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court April 4, 2019 and continued in the position until his retirement in April, 2021.
