Communal clash in Chhattisgarh: 1 dead, four injured including police officer

Raipur, April 8

One person was killed while four others were injured as communal clashes broke out in Chhattisgarh’s Bemetara district on Saturday.

Unconfirmed reports said that there was tension in the Birampur village following an incident of Love Jihad. On Saturday, two children entered into a verbal debate on the issue that resulted in a fight. Soon the senior members of two communities joined that flared up violence in the village.

Sources said the members from both the communities used swords and lethal weapons. Heavy stone pelting was also reported that grilled the policemen who rushed to the spot soon after getting information.

A youth reportedly died in the incident while four others including a police sub inspector was seriously injured in the stone attack. The injured were rushed to the Community Health Center in Saja.

Sources said tension prevailed in the village even as additional forces had been rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The District Magistrate and Bemetara Superintendent of Police along with senior officials have reached the village and are monitoring the law and order situation.

The senior officials said the situation was under control even as the authorities were keeping a close eye on the unfolding developments.
