The gangster-turned-politician, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were killed in the attack in front of the Motilal Nehru Medical college in Prayagraj on Saturday.

Atiq, against whom over 100 cases were registered, along with his brother Ashraf was gunned down while going for a medical test. Ashraf was saying “Main baat yeh hai ki Guddu Muslim,” but before he could complete the sentence, his brother was shot in the head from point-blank range by one of the killers.

The secret died with Ashraf but the investigating police officials are trying to establish the links of Ashraf’s last words. One of the officials said they were unable to think about anything other than the “main baat” Ashraf was about to say about Guddu Muslim.

Guddu Muslim is a member of the Atiq Ahmed gang that killed Umesh Pal on February 24, 2023. Guddu, who carries a reward of Rs 5 lakh, was seen attacking with a bomb in the CCTV footage of Umesh Pal’s murder.

An accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, Guddu Muslim has a long criminal history in Allahabad. He was a crude bomb maker and is also known as Guddu bambaj. Born in Allahabad, Guddu Muslim was sent to Lucknow as he got associated with the crime world at a very young age.

He was arrested in 1997 on the charges of murdering a teacher of Lucknow’s La Martinere School but was released in want of evidence. He had fled Uttar Pradesh following police fear and escaped to Bihar but was arrested in 2001. It is believed that Atiq Ahmad got him out of jail and they became close.

It is believed that Guddu has changed his location several times since Umesh Pal’s murder. He traveled to West Bengal, Bihar, Gujarat as well as Delhi, and the STF was continuously following him. Unconfirmed reports suggested that Guddu Muslim had been finally cornered in Nashik. However, Maharashtra police have denied the reports.
