Legislators of three left parties in Mahagathbandhan alliance supporting Nitish Kumar government on Friday opposed premature release of former MP Anand Mohan Singh from Saharsa jail on Thursday.

They called the government action as support to “feudal lords” and criminals with heinous charge of killing a dalit civil servant. There are 16 MLAs of left parties-11 of CPI(ML), three of CPM and two of CPI. They staged dharna at the MLAs flats on Beerchand Patel Road.

Families of six prisoners detained in different jails under now scrapped TADA were also present in the dharna. One of them is in prison for the last 22 years. They demanded release of all TADA prisoners in jail for their alleged involvement in caste riots. MLAs said the decision to release Anand Mohan Singh was taken in a haste to facilitate his early release from the jail.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar defended decision to release the former MP and claimed there was a consensus on his premature release.

Nitish said BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi in February this year had demanded Anand’s release. He presented photos of Modi hugging Anand and his statement demanding his release.

The Chief Minister claimed Anand Mohan was not involved in murder of the then District Magistrate of G Krishnaiah on 4, December, 1994.
