Inferior to superior and exceptional to ordinary, people from all walks of life joined the campaign of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to taste state’s traditional food Borey Baasi on Monday.

Aimed to get Chhattisgarh’s unique culinary tradition of Borey Baasi a world-wide recognition and put it in the international platter, Baghel last year launched the campaign and appealed to all the Chhattisgarhi residents to taste the food on the occasion of Labour Day. The state government observes the day as Borey Baasi Tihaar (festival in Chhattisgarhi dialect).

Borey Baasi is a staple breakfast taken by the labourers, farmers and the common populace because of its high nutritional content and pro health properties.  Borey Baasi is made by soaking leftover rice in water; keeping it overnight. In the morning, it is eaten with tomato chutney or pickle and raw onion after adding salt according to taste.

People of Chhattisgarh usually eat this breakfast in the morning. Eating Baasi not only provides relief from heat but also keeps blood pressure under control and also prevents dehydration during summer.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister enjoyed the meal with thousands of laborers from all over the state at the Labour Day and Borey Baasi Tihaar organised in the state capital. Sitting on the ground, Baghel dined Athan, Chutney, Bhaji, Badi-Bijouri and Gondli at the mass feast.

“Borey Baasi is an important part of the culture of Chhattisgarhi workers and the festival is being celebrated only to express gratitude towards their respect and contribution,” Baghel said. It is the favorite food of the laborers and also an important part of their life, he said, adding that the contribution of laborers in the development of Chhattisgarh is invaluable and with their efforts, they are moving fast towards building a new prosperous Chhattisgarh.

People from the cross section of the society including ministers, public representatives, bureaucrats, security personnel and different organisations also enjoyed Borey Baasi, and joined the campaign.
