The first unit of 660 MW of the Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant (MSTPP) in Bangladesh has been included in the installed and commercial capacity of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited.
The 1,320 MW coal-fired power station is coming up in Rampal of Bangladesh. The project is being developed by Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company (BIFPCL), a 50:50 joint venture between India’s state-run NTPC and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
The construction work started in 2017. The completion of the first unit of the power plant was jointly announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the latter’s visit to India in September. 2022 The Unit II is expected to be commissioned this year and after completion it will be one of the largest power plants of Bangladesh.
“In line with the Corporate Disclosure requirements, we wish to inform that based on achievement of approved norms and due approvals, Unit-1 of 660 MW of 1320 MW (2×660) Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant (MSTPP) at Rampal, Mongla, Bagerhat of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt.) Limited (BIFPCL) (a Foreign JV Company of NTPC Limited) is included in the installed and commercial capacity of NTPC Group w.e.f. 23.12.2022,” NTPC Limited said in a regulatory filing.
With this, the total installed and commercial capacity of NTPC group has become 72304 MW.
